Shopping in the Cotswolds
Discover Cotswolds independent retailers
One of the great pleasures of the Cotswolds is to discover independent retailers spread over dozens of market towns and villages. All very refreshing after bland city high streets. Here are just a few of our favourites. You’re bound to find your own as you explore the Cotswold hills.
THE RSC GIFT SHOP
Great for books of course, but also posters and retro souvenirs. On the lighter side there are some terrible puns on products: anyone for a 2B (or not to be?) pencil?
A farm shop, but maybe like no other. The prices can be eye-watering, but the quality is high. The large site combines spa, clothes shop, café, garden and food shop – a good celeb spotting location.
THE YELLOW HAT TRIBE
Local star, Irene Tyack works out of an ostrich farm between Burford and Stow. Her quirky concept of the
'Yellow Hat Tribe' now has followers around the world.
Beautifully designed cutlery, kitchen and homeware in a setting that seems half art gallery, half shop.
COTSWOLD CHEESE COMPANY
With over 100 cheeses in the Cotswolds, this is a highly recommended cheese emporium.
The emphasis is on products that support local communities and economies. Whisky and fudge are amongst the best sellers, branded with the Prince of Wales Feathers.
Tetbury and Nailsworth
Cool antiques and design items aplenty.
MANFRED SCHOTTEN ANTIQUES
Sporting antiques are the speciality here; posters, antique golf items and other sporting ephemera are beautifully displayed.
WOEFULDANE ORGANIC DAIRY
A lovely village – and this brilliant little dairy and food shop is highly recommended – especially as the area is scenically spectacular.
STROUD FARMERS' MARKET
Saturday mornings see Stroud bustling with one of Britain's most colourful food markets. Cafés and vintage
shops complete the picture.
THE LETTER PRESS
An inspiring shop dealing with stationery and bespoke printing. Exceptional.
VINTAGE TO VOGUE
Great shop stocking, well, vintage to vogue clothing.
