New Brewery Arts

Cirencester, Gloucestershire

New Brewery ArtsA shop, gallery and cafe in the centre of Cirencester. Maker’s studios open to visit.

Cirencester is a traditional sort of place at the centre of the Cotswolds. The Corinium Museum is excellent, there are some great cafes tucked away here and there and plenty one-off shops. The Tardis-like antique centre is worth a detour.

Mark Steel called Cirencester the spiritual home of the mustard corduroy trouser - certainly Cirencester’s Waitrose is the spiritual home of middle-class Cotswold-dom. None of these things are a criticism. Cirencester is a place to visit if you really want to feel that you’re in the everyday Cotswolds.

There are, however, signs of 21st century life in Cirencester. No visitor should miss New Brewery Arts, which:

a) has a terrific shop for ceramics, jewellery, glassware and gift ideas. quality is high.

b) offers various workshops encourage visitors to view work in progress. LOCO glass is always interesting.

c) has a permanent gallery with changing exhibitions.

d) has a cafe which is a cut above too. Things are made on site and there’s a local/organic bias.

If you’re in the Cotswolds for any length of time, or would like to build a break around an arts course or workshop, key an eye on what’s on offer at New Brewery Arts.

Cirencester is at the centre of the Cotswolds, so anywhere really. But Barnsley House, The Hare and Hounds and Whatley Manor are especially handy.
