Longborough used to be described locally as 'opera in a barn', although the owners now refer to the venue as a purpose-built opera house. If you are an opera lover, you'll enjoy Longborough, the Cotswold take on Glyndebourne.
An internationally-recognised opera season now attracts opera cognescenti, the socially ambitious and curious music lovers. The 2018 season includes four new productions - Wagner's Flying Dutchman, La Traviata, Ariadne auf Naxos(Strauss) and The Coronation of Poppaea, which is attributed by most Monteverdi. Productions generally receive rapturous reviews from the opera community.
The setting is Longborough Opera House created by local property developer Martin Graham and his wife Lizzie.
Al performances start at 5pm, with the 500 seat venue opening 90 minutes beforehand. There are restaurants or you may bring a picnic. The dress code is 'stylish garden party' with a significant number of punters opting for black tie. Avoid high heels, and a wrap or blanket is recommended.
