Gloucester Cathedral is impressive in many ways; for its long history, as the burial place of kings and architecturally. In recent years, it has become celebrated as a Harry Potter movie location (in fact purists should note that filming took place in the attached cloisters, not strictly speaking within the cathedral).

Cotswold Wildlife Park, which is definitely not to be confused with the Cotswold Farm Park, is near Burford in Oxfordshire. At this one you’ll see rhinos, monkeys and giraffes rather than sheep, pigs and goats. We're told that a small but steady stream of visitors do turn up at each venue having confused the two attractions.

Woodchester Mansion is an enigmatic visitor attraction. It’s a one-off, run by its own charitable trust and a unique listed Victorian Gothic revival mansion in a Cotswolds valley, near Nympsfield. Now, the word ‘unique’ is one of the most heavily used words in tourist brochures - but here’s why.

Chedworth Roman Villa is one of Britain’s grandest, a legacy of the last century of Roman government, before the Brito-Roman era ended. Although, older, the building was enhanced especially in the 4th Century. It was a substantial villa, even amongst an estimated 50 villas in the Cotswolds.

So photogenic that they’ve had to ban drones, the unlikely sight of Provencal-style fields of lavender in the Cotswolds is now a popular attraction.
