Bourton Model Village

Bourton on the Water, Gloucestershire

Ever-popular model of Bourton on the Water village, which includes a model of the model. And a model of the model of the model.

Bourton on the Water, although perhaps a little too popular with visitors at times, retains a cuteness that can suddenly stop you in your tracks, especially at the end or beginning of the day. If you’re looking for the antidote to the crowds, by the way, take a walk through neighbouring Wyck Rissington - no shops, no pubs, just a collection of Cotswolds cottages.

Anyway, if Bourton is cute, it follows that a 1/9th scale model of the village should has the potential to be extremely cute. And so it is. People tend to smile when they arrive here.

The model is built in the local Cotswold stone, you can walk through it, rather than look from behind a barrier. You cross a model River Windrush over model bridges, a model congregation sings in a model church. It’s all very charming.

The model village was given Grade II listed status recently and also celebrated 80 years. It is open every day.
