Bourton House Garden

Bourton on the Hill, Gloucestershire

Bourton on the Hill

Bourton on the HillFirst thing - don’t head to Bourton-on-the-Water to see Bourton House Garden. The garden is at the bottom of the single street village called Bourton on the Hill, which is about 12 miles away from the other Bourton. Bourton on the Hill is near Moreton in Marsh, near Batsford Arboretum.

The garden has been a success story since opening to the public a few years back. It is privately owned, which always seems to make a difference. We like it best for the wide herbaceous borders, white garden and indeed careful planting throughout. Bourton always has a long run of flowers, even late in the season. You’ll find rare plants throughout this lovely place.

There is extensive topiary for fans of pointy trees and organic hedge shapes. Enthusiasts will head for the shade house, and spring-fed water features which are unique. You can also walk through a seven acre field which has been planted with specimen trees.

Teas available in a Tithe Barn. Gardeners could spend the day between here, Batsford Arboretum and Sezincote House, all almost within walking distance of each other.

Open Tuesday to Friday, from April to October.
Limited access for mobility aids etc. Best to call in advance to ask, if in doubt. No Dogs.

Lords of the Manor and The Manor House at Moreton in Marsh have lovely gardens in their own right. Charingworth Manor is well placed for Bourton on the Hill and other local gardens.
