Batsford Arboretum

Batsford, near Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire

Batsford ArboretumDog-friendly arboretum and garden centre in the North Cotswolds. There are 58 acres to explore, making it the largest privately-owned tree collection for some distance. There are circa 1300 trees, shrubs and bamboos.

The arboretum is a year-round popular attraction and has just completed a renovation of the garden centre and restaurant. The progression of  most of the Cotswolds horticultural ‘year' can be enjoyed here from snowdrops, spring flowers and cherry trees. Cherry trees are a focus - Batsford has the National Collection of Japanese Flowering Cherries. Continuing the oriental theme, there is also a bamboo collection at Batsford - and a Japanese style tea house building.

Summer offers plenty of tree shade, orchids, buttercups and foxgloves. Autumn is, naturally, peak visitor season, thanks to spectacular displays of colour.

The Garden Terrace deck is a fine place to enjoy tea and cake and the plant centre is in a walled garden.

The Cotswolds Falconry Centre is on the same site (separate admission charge).
